A young soldier was once asked: “Is it hard to kill people?”

The young soldiers reply was: “No Sir it’s real easy, the hard part is finding the right ones to kill.

Before you even put your finger on the trigger make absolutely sure it is what you want to do, and that you have got the right person in your sights.”

Security is a wide ranging subject, and personal protection or defence can become somewhat controversial, with so many conflicting ideas and methods so much so that many people reach saturation point and mental fatigue, developing an attitude of doing nothing at all, or thinking they can do little about their security situation “it’s just too much to adsorb”.

So what is security? To the Special Forces soldier it can be a bank or tandem of Claymore mines covered by in-flaying fire or a pre-set DF (defensive fire) zone. Yet at the same time his security, or the security of a small team can be as simple as crawling into the jungle or thick bush to sleep, (secrecy being a large part of their security), two men are easier to hide than ten or twenty.

Consider that most if not all security techniques have been conceived in and by the military then taken and adapted, for use in a civilian and police roll. It of course bodes well for you if you can find someone who has got the T shirt. If this is a fact and it is! You must ask, what is the first and most basic principle of warfare? Because training for war has been the incubator for many security techniques that we employ to day. The basic and fundamental doctoring of war has been and still is, Stay alive…. Kill the enemy. If a solider does not know how to stay alive he is of little use to anyone as he will be very dead, very fast. All his training and techniques are to this end staying alive to kill the enemy.

Parachuting, high altitude low opening (HALO), Rebreather Diving, rope work and Small boat skills are just a means of entry and a delivery method. The civilian world many times confuses this as the be all and end all of the Special Forces soldier. Yet the fact is, all the Special Forces Operator does differently is application of good sound basic soldering with the correct mind set and attitude.

A brilliant sniper is an excellent shoot. There are many excellent shoots in the civilian world, however the trained sniper or Special Forces operator applies movement and camouflage to the ninth degree then exercises self-control, discipline, patients and determination. He is a master of his trade and craft it is a way of life, it is a tactical mind-set.

So what is security to you? Is it a set of ideas and actions born out of fear, or necessity, or a responsibility to stay alive for your family and kill the enemy?

We instruct on fire and movement, how to move, when to move. It’s not a sport, it’s not a game. We don’t shoot for points or competition. We teach and train to instill a tactical mind-set and security.
